11+ Summer Vocabulary Intensive
A one-week course designed to strengthen the language that drives high-level entrance exam performance.
Strong vocabulary changes everything at 11+ level.
It affects comprehension. It shapes creative writing. It supports inference, reasoning, precision, confidence and verbal expression.
Yet many children approach vocabulary in the wrong way: memorising isolated definitions without ever truly owning the words.
This summer intensive is designed to change that.
Across one week, students will explore and actively use 50 carefully selected high-level words in a small, discussion-rich group environment. Rather than simply “learning meanings”, children will encounter vocabulary in context, apply it through writing and discussion, and revisit it repeatedly throughout the week so the language becomes natural, flexible and usable.
The course is highly interactive and deliberately designed to encourage deeper thinking, verbal confidence and originality of expression. Students are challenged not just to recognise ambitious vocabulary, but to understand nuance, tone and precision, and to use language purposefully in both speech and writing.
Alongside vocabulary development, the course also supports:
- Stronger inference and comprehension skills
- More sophisticated creative writing
- Greater confidence expressing ideas aloud
- Faster retrieval and application of language under pressure
- The ability to explain, justify and discuss ideas within a group setting
With a maximum of just six students, sessions are collaborative, lively and carefully guided to ensure every child contributes, shares ideas and receives individual attention.
This is not a worksheet-heavy course focused on memorisation.
It is a fast-paced, language-rich environment designed to help children think more deeply, write more vividly and communicate with greater precision, all while building the vocabulary foundation that underpins success across the 11+.
